Robotic Process Automation
I lead a research program focusing on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and organisational adoption. Our pioneering work (Syed et al,. 2020) resulted in a special issue [1] on RPA by the Computer in Industry Journal (Q1). My on going research work in this domain is well-recognised by the industry, as evidenced by my regular participation in industry expert panels on robotic process automation by Gartner [2].
My current research in RPA includes:

Digital Leadership
Digital transformation and digitalisation are on top of the CIOs' agenda. However, organisations embarking into these initiatives struggle to understand the nature of leadership capabilities required for effective DT. Furthermore, the complexities associated with pandemics such as Covid19 have forced organisations to change the traditional view of leadership. The uncertainties require well-rounded leaders who can create vision and execute tactically to influence change, develop digital capabilities and foster enterprise agility.
This project explores how organisations build and using digital capabilities to address the challenges posed by the competitive environment. The outcomes are expected to document and categorise digital capabilities within different organisational contexts such as public sector, health, education and retail.
Anti Corruption
I am passionate about investigating the anti-corruption initiatives in public sector organisations from a novel process ecosystem perspective. Corruption is a key stumbling block for public sector digital transformation. My early work on public sector digital transformations, as well as the ongoing work, explains how a combination of business process design innovations, well-aligned Information Systems, and process-aware leadership form a process ecosystem to alleviate the impact of corruption in public sector organisations.
